Pakistan is facing a major internet outage with two  of the seven undersea cables connecting the country severed. The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) reported that the issue has slowed internet speeds, making it difficult for users to access websites and services smoothly. The damaged cables are crucial to Pakistan's internet infrastructure as they transmit large amounts of data.The cables Repairs are expected to be completed by August 27, 2024.


 The disruption has had a significant economic impact, especially on freelancers, IT professionals and digital businesses, with losses estimated at $300 million12. Despite rumors that a government-installed firewall was contributing to the slowdowns, the PTA  clarified that these were purely technical issues related to damage to undersea cables and not due to  new cybersecurity measures.
