PCAA directs all airlines to adopt preventive measures against monkeypox

As of my last update in August 2024, there were no specific global guidelines from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) or similar aviation authorities mandating monkeypox precautions for airlines. However, given the potential health risks associated with infectious diseases, airlines and aviation authorities often implement health and safety measures in response to emerging threats. If the PCAA (Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority) or  other national aviation authorities were to issue such guidelines, they would likely focus on the following preventative measures:

1.Enhanced Health Screening:

Conduct health screenings for passengers at airports to identify symptoms and risk factors associated with monkeypox.

 2.Hygiene Protocols:

Increase the frequency and thoroughness of cleaning and disinfection of aircraft cabins, airport facilities, and frequently touched surfaces.

 3.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

Recommend or require flight crew to use PPE, such as masks and gloves, to reduce the risk of infection.

4.Passenger Information:

Provide passengers with information about monkeypox, including symptoms, prevention measures, and what to do if they feel sick.

 5.Travel Advisories:

Issue travel advisories or guidelines for travelers traveling to or from areas where monkeypox cases have been reported.

 6.Coordination with Health Authorities:

Work closely with  health authorities to ensure compliance with broader health measures and  stay abreast of the latest guidelines. We recommend that you refer directly to the latest announcements from the relevant aviation authorities or health agencies for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
