Two police officers in Karachi were recently suspended for making videos while on duty and posting them on social media, which their superiors deemed irresponsible. Maria Gill, a police officer stationed at Gizri Police Station, created a TikTok video mentioning her station.
The video caught the attention of South Karachi Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza, who suspended her. In another incident, Constable Zeeshan, who was stationed at Baghdadi Police Station, was suspended after an old video of him showing a firearm in his uniform went viral.
The video was recorded in 2022 but uploaded in 2023, and only recently attracted attention. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arif Aziz stressed that such behaviour, especially display of weapons, is strictly prohibited and officers involved will face departmental action.
These suspensions reflect the broader police internal policy of prioritising professionalism and a zero tolerance policy towards such behaviour while on duty.
