Kyiv carries out biggest drone attack on Moscow

MOSCOW: Ukraine struck the Moscow region on Tuesday in its biggest drone attack so far on the Russian capital, killing at least one woman, wrecking dozens of homes and forcing around 50 flights to be diverted from airports around Moscow.

On September 10, 2024, Kiev carried out its largest drone attack against Moscow, launching 144 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the largest drone operation against the Russian capital since the start of the war.

The attack killed a woman in the Ramenskoye district in southeast Moscow and caused significant damage to residential buildings.

Several Moscow airports  were closed for several hours and around 50 flights were diverted.

Russian authorities reported that at least 20 drones were destroyed over Moscow and another 124 were shot down in other parts of Russia.

The Russian government's response was to portray the attack as further evidence of Ukraine's hostile stance. Kiev, meanwhile, did not immediately comment on the incident, but continues to view such operations as part of its right to respond to Russia's ongoing aggression.

Drone warfare has become an integral part of the broader conflict, with both countries using advanced  commercial drones to attack military infrastructure and other strategic sites deep inside each other's territory.
