LONDON: England’s World Cup-winner Moeen Ali has retired from international cricket, with the 37-year-old insisting: “I’ve done my part.” The spin-bowling all-rounder, in an interview with Britain’s Daily Mail, said he made the decision after he was overlooked for England’s upcoming white-ball series against arch-rivals Australia.
37-year-old England all-rounder Moeen Ali has officially announced his retirement from international cricket on 8 September 2024.
Moeen, who had already retired from Test cricket in 2021 before briefly returning for the 2023 Ashes series, took the decision after being left out of England's squad for the upcoming T20 series against Australia.
Moeen explained that he felt it was the right time for him to step down and hand over to the next generation.
In a 10-year career, Moeen played 298 international matches, scoring 6,678 runs across all formats and taking 366 wickets.
His contributions have been pivotal to England's white-ball success, including their victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Moeen also expressed his desire to continue playing franchise cricket and explore coaching opportunities in the future.
