LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday remanded PTI-Lahore chapter secretary general Awais Younas in a case of attacking police outside Zaman Park residence of former premier Imran Khan and sent its MPA Imtiaz Sheikh on judicial remand in the Zilleh Shah murder.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Wednesday ordered the 10-day remand of Pakistan Movement for Justice (PTI) leaders in connection with various criminal cases.
The detention was imposed as part of the ongoing investigation into the events surrounding the May 9 protests in which PTI leaders were accused of inciting violence and attacking military and government properties.
The court ordered the detention to allow police to further investigate the charges, including terrorism and other criminal activities.
During the hearing, the prosecutor stressed that this pretrial detention is necessary to conduct crucial forensic tests such as voice comparison and polygraph tests.
Despite the defence's objections on the legality of the pretrial detention, the court approved the decision on the grounds that participation via video link would be sufficient for the hearing for security reasons.
