Bodies of 28 pilgrims killed in Iran bus crash brought home to Pakistan

On August 23, 2024, a tragic bus accident occurred in Iran, killing 28 Pakistani pilgrims. The pilgrims were traveling from Mashhad, an important pilgrimage site in Iran, when the bus collided with another vehicle and overturned in the Qaf district
The victims were from Balochistan province in Pakistan and were participating in a pilgrimage to a holy site in Iran. The bodies of the 28 pilgrims were repatriated to Pakistan in coordination with Iranian and Pakistani authorities. The bodies were airlifted to Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, where they were received by relatives and officials.
The accident shocked both countries as pilgrimages to Iranian religious sites are widespread among Pakistani Shiite Muslims. It also raised concerns about the safety of travel routes in the region.
