Lahore High Court Order To Remove Chairman NADRA From Office

Lahore High Court Order To Remove Chairman NADRA From Office

On September 6, 2024, the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar's appointment as Director General  of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) invalid.

The decision came on a petition  by citizen Ashba Kamran who argued that the caretaker government, which approved Afsar's appointment,  exceeded its constitutional mandate by changing NADRA regulations.

The caretaker government was limited to overseeing day-to-day operations and had no power to make long-term policy decisions, including the appointment of key posts such as the Chairman of NADRA.

The court ruled that the appointment was made without the necessary legal authority and said the caretaker government's actions violated NADRA regulations.

The ruling also called for Afsar's immediate dismissal and directed that copies of the court's decision be sent to the relevant government departments, such as the Federal Cabinet and the Ministry of Interior.
