PIA Air Hostess Gets Relief in Foreign Currency Smuggling Case

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) stewardess was recently assisted in a foreign currency smuggling case that occurred at  Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.

In the case, which took place in late July 2024,  the stewardess was caught with large amounts of foreign currency - $37,318 and 40,000 Saudi Riyals - hidden in her socks and other body parts. She was arrested as she was preparing to board a flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Suspicious, customs officials removed them from the plane and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of the hidden currency.

Following her arrest, the stewardess was handed over to the investigation team and a case was initiated against her. Regarding legal proceedings, recent reports suggest that she has received some compensation, though details of  the compensation have not been fully detailed.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts by Pakistani authorities to crack down on foreign currency smuggling, with orders being issued by senior government officials to impose strict measures against such activities.
